STATEMENT XLIII

I was pretty oblivious before entering 9th grade, wearing rose colored glasses and thinking that NRHS was a happy, diverse place compared to the demographic at ALMS. Even though the student body as a whole is diverse, the classes aren’t. Once charts and graphs were released about this, I ran through my Google Classroom pages, counting the proportion of POC in my classes- AP Biology, APUSH and English Honors only having ~40% of non-white students. The de facto segregation at school needs to be addressed desperately, not only at the High but also in the elementary schools. Zoning led to most of my peers in my classes at Ward Elementary School being white. I can go through class pictures and only see a small handful of people of color
