How the Princeton Plan Would Work

in New Rochelle

This would eliminate neighborhood schooling and group kids based on grade level. For New Rochelle, each current elementary school could house a grade like Trinity Elementary School for 1st Grade, Ward Elementary for 2nd grade, and so on.

This has the ability to reallocate teachers and resources to specialize in their grade level -- providing a better education for our students with smaller class sizes and consistent curriculums regardless of racial and socioeconomic background.

We recognize the limitations.

There are only two middle schools however Henry Barnard School could be reappropriated to exclusively house Kindergarten, leaving one of the elementary schools to take 6th grade. Afterwards, all 7th graders could go to Issac E. Young together and the 8th graders at Albert Leonard or, vice versa.

Additionally, since the City Hall of New Rochelle is relocating to a downtown location, the building is essentially being returned to the district. This could also be an alternative option for all New Rochelle 6th grade students.

Bussing would be complex, yes, and students in certain years would unavoidably have longer bus rides. Again, we have another solution. Staggering school times (i.e. class start times) would offset the conflict of busses being required at the same time.
